Bally’s Shows Off Plans For Casino Resort Around A’s Stadium

Image By Marnell ArchitectureWith the implosion of the Tropicana Casino now complete and construction set to begin on a new stadium for the Oakland Athletics, Bally’s Corp. recently released renderings of what the entire property will look like when the company also moves forward with adding a casino resort on site.

The $1.5 billion, 33,000-person capacity stadium will occupy nine acres with a casino resort taking up the remaining 26 acres of the location. The plan released by Bally’s includes three hotel towers to be built over three phases, with the first featuring a 90,000-square-foot casino facing Las Vegas Boulevard.

“There’s 250 days baseball doesn’t play, and we’ll have the second-largest venue in the city,” Bally’s Chairman Soo Kim told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “What it adds to the fabric of the city for the potential events and tourism is exciting.”

Along with the hotel towers, the casino resort is expected to include 110,000 square feet of meeting space, several restaurants and bars, retail shops, a day club, and more.

The casino will house 1,500 slot machines, 75 table games, and a 12,000-square-foot sports book. Initial plans also call for a poker room. The room at the Tropicana was closed several years ago, but the casino had also hosted the Bally Live Poker streaming cash game in the months leading up to its implosion.

“The designs are initial massing diagrams intended to ensure that both our resort program and the A’s stadium program can be successfully accommodated on the site,” a Bally’s spokesperson told the LVRJ. “We anticipate that the designs will evolve as we advance the project.”

Construction of the stadium is expected to begin by the second quarter of next year with completion planned for 2028. It’s not clear yet if construction on the casino resort would proceed concurrently with the building of the ballpark. The current plan is still preliminary and would need approval by Clark County officials.
