Man dies after officer-involved shooting at Hollywood Casino and Hotel in Lawrenceburg, troopers say



LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (WXIX) -One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting occurred Saturday morning at the Hollywood Casino and Hotel in Lawrenceburg, according to troopers with the Indiana State Police. Troopers say that they were called to the Hollywood Casino Hotel around 1 a.m. for the report of a disturbance coming from the fourth floor. A preliminary investigation stated that a man was chasing a woman with a knife, troopers said. Three Lawrenceburg police officers arrived at the scene and discovered that the man was firing shots from the fourth floor. Troopers say once police arrived at the fourth floor, they found the man in the hallway. Then, an officer gave commands to drop the gun the suspect was holding, but then the suspect started shooting with the officers returning fire, troopers said. Troopers say the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.His identity is being withheld until deputies can properly identify him and notify his next of kin. Troopers say one victim sustained minor injuries after the suspect confronted him with a knife before police arrived. The victim and the suspect are believed not to know each other. Police then checked on the hotel patrons and worked with hotel staff to move guests to a confronted area, troopers said. No injuries were reported. Troopers are still investigating the incident.
