LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. — Indiana State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a man dead at the Hollywood Casino Hotel in Lawrenceburg Saturday morning.
According to ISP, a disturbance was reported on the fourth floor of the hotel around 1 a.m. ISP reported that preliminary information given to police indicated an adult male armed with a knife was threatening and pursuing another person.
Three officers from the Lawrenceburg Police Department were the first law enforcement personnel to the make it to the scene. Upon their arrival, the LPD officers learned the suspect who had been chasing somebody with a knife had since begun firing a gun on the fourth floor of the hotel.

When LPD officers made it up to the fourth floor of the building, they located the suspect. One officer began to command the suspect to drop his gun.
ISP reported that the suspect then began shooting his gun, and police subsequently returned fire. The suspect was struck by the gunfire, and none of the officers involved in the incident were injured.
Per ISP, the suspect died at the scene. The man will be officially identified once the Dearborn County Coroner’s Office has properly notified his family of his death.
Police also reported that one person sustained minor injuries when the suspect confronted him with a knife. Investigators do not think the victim and suspect knew each other.
No other injuries were reported after the shooting. Police checked the welfare of other patrons in the hotel, and facility staff relocated guests that were staying in the area closest to the shooting scene.
ISP did not identify the officers involved in the shooting. LPD has placed the officers on administrative leave in compliance with its standard protocols.
