Ameristar Casino opens baccarat room in renovated pavilion

EAST CHICAGO — Ameristar Casino is making baccarat — Northwest Indiana’s most popular casino table game — more accessible to its thousands of monthly visitors. The gaming riverboat located at Pastrick Marina on Lake Michigan recently completed an eight-week renovation of its attached land-based pavilion that puts Ameristar’s baccarat tables just steps away from the casino’s entrance. Now, instead of having to trek through the pavilion and up four floors on the boat to get to the baccarat tables, Ameristar guests can play baccarat in brand new digs on the third floor of the pavilion in a space previously used for meetings and events. The renovation of the Penn Entertainment facility also brought the popular Red Lotus Noodle Bar restaurant, a new Social Lounge bar, and 120 relocated slot machines into the pavilion.

“Ameristar East Chicago is thrilled to open the new baccarat room and our full renovation for guests. These property enhancements will create a more enjoyable experience for all with better flow through the casino, delicious food options and modernized bar offerings,” said Rob Swedinovich, Ameristar East Chicago vice president and general manager. The new baccarat room opened Wednesday night following a traditional Lion Dance to bring good luck to all who play there. The Chinese dance was led by Wong’s Lion Dance Association as casino guests, local officials and Ameristar employees looked on.”We are thankful to our community leaders with Wong’s Lion Dance Association for assisting in planning and carrying out a wonderful traditional blessing of the renovated site. Their artistry and partnership made the opening especially memorable,” Swedinovich said.Baccarat is popular because, among other reasons, it offers players the best chance to hang on to more of their money than any other table game.Every casino game is designed to favor the house. But Indiana baccarat players, on average, got back 82.6% of their wagers last year, compared to a 79.8% return to player for blackjack, 77.4% for craps, 73.4% for roulette and 70.9% for house-banked poker games.Baccarat also is a relatively simple game. At its most basic level, a baccarat player bets on whether the “banker” or the “player” will have a hand that draws closest to nine.Unlike blackjack, where players try to beat the dealer by getting their cards near 21 without going over, each baccarat player uses the same set of cards, and the decision of whether the baccarat dealer draws additional cards on behalf of either the “banker” or the “player” automatically is determined by the rules of the game.Advanced baccarat players also can take advantage of a seemingly unlimited number of side bets with huge potential payoffs depending on the size of the wager and the unlikelihood of the outcome. The Ameristar baccarat relocation is the latest in a series of renovations — amid increasing regional gaming competition — focused on improving accessibility and the overall guest experience at the 27-year-old East Chicago casino. It was the first project at Ameristar overseen by Swedinovich, a 25-year gaming industry veteran who recently relocated to Northwest Indiana from Youngstown, Ohio, where he was general manager of Hollywood Gaming Mahoning Valley Race Course.
