LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (WXIX) – The suspect who fired a gun toward law enforcement at the Hollywood Casino Hotel in Lawrenceburg has been identified.

Milo L. Kirsh, 45, of Avon, Indiana, was identified by Indiana State Police on Monday.

According to Indiana State Police Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, Lawrenceburg police officers were dispatched to the fourth floor of the Hollywood Hotel on Oct. 19 at 1 a.m. after Kirsh was reported to be acting “erratically” and allegedly chased a guest with a knife.

When officers arrived, they learned that Kirsh had possession of a firearm and was firing it on the fourth floor where many guests were staying, Sgt. Wheeles said.

“Obviously, you can imagine, that creates some concern,” Sgt. Wheeles said of the situation. ”We’re looking at a weekend where there’s lots of guests at the hotels, so obviously it’s a big concern.”

Three officers went to the fourth floor and found Kirsh in the hallway.

Sgt. Wheeles says the three officers knew Kirsh was a threat as soon as they saw him in the hallway.

One officer ordered him to drop the handgun he was holding, Wheeles explained.

According to investigators, Kirsh “very quickly” began shooting at officers after they gave commands to drop his gun.

“They, obviously for their safety, returned fire,” Wheeles continued.

The suspect was hit by one of the officers’ bullets and was pronounced dead at the scene, Wheeles said.

None of the officers were injured, and the victim who was chased with a knife sustained minor injuries.

According to FOX19 NOW’s previous coverage, it is believed the suspect and the victim did not know each other.

Kirsh’s autopsy is pending.

The three Lawrenceburg police officers involved are on administrative leave, which is standard protocol until the investigation is complete.

Sgt. Wheeles says the officers wore body cameras and he expects that footage to be released after the investigation is complete.

The Dearborn County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case to determine if the officers’ actions were justified.
