Paga Hill Estate to own, lease casino only

THE company that will build this casino, Paga Hill Development Company said late yesterday, that the casino will be run by an internationally accredited casino operator.

“They will have to meet all requirements in terms of accreditation, anti-money laundering compliance, etc as for Paga Hill Development Company we will own and lease the facilities,” Paga Hill Estate chairman Peter Barch said.

“We will not be involved in the operations of the casino.

“The model will be that of Singapore which will be focused on foreigners and tourists.

“This development is part of a broader development agenda to enhance tourism opportunities in Port Moresby and PNG as a whole.

“We  already have horse racing and pokies in PNG.

“The casino is geared towards foreigners and tourists and will operate under much stricter regime.”

The role of Paga Hill Estate SEZ in attracting a broader base of increased tourism

The Paga Hill Estate SEZ represents a bold vision to transform the nation’s capital.

Physically, it more than doubles the existing downtown area and constitutes an opportunity to reimagine Port Moresby, developing residential, commercial, hospitality and tourism elements that collectively present a new image of Port Moresby to the world.

Specifically, one that more people will be willing to visit, reside, work and play at.

The planned Radisson Hotel, and now the satellite casino, will form key elements of Paga Hill Estate SEZ’s tourism infrastructure.

Casinos are a proven means of attracting and prolonging international visitation.

Research indicates that casinos prolong visitors’ stay in a city and stimulate expenditure.

The World Tourism Organisation concludes that they also stimulate the local economy surrounding the casino, bringing in more people to the area, creating demand for year-round entertainment.
